1. Character's Name: Mica Erving

2. Age: 24

3. Background:

Welcome to New America

In New Connecticut, Mica's mother and father were pair of fairly successful business people who valued their business relationships over their personal ones. So it was a bit of a surprise for her parents when they discovered Mica's mother was pregnant. They had originally intended to remain child-free, but Mica threw a wrench in those plans and forced them to obtain a permit for children about 3 weeks into her mother's pregnancy. After she was born, her parents left her in the care of a nanny more often than not so they wouldn't have to deal with her and bought her things to pacify her when they wanted her to behave. They taught her how to act in high society social functions and expected her to act accordingly. In a lot of ways, they treated her more like a showroom dog than their daughter.

So needless to say, Mica was much more attached to her nanny than she was to either of her parents. The night terrors began when she was about 12 years old and it was her nanny who held her and stayed up with her when she couldn't sleep. But it was also her nanny who originally suggested she go to the Facility the first time she created an explosion. The bright red and orange energy had only created a tiny blast, not enough to cause any serious damage, but still enough to frighten them both.

Mica was naturally afraid and begged for time to consider her options and out of affection for the girl, her nanny agreed. It wasn't until Mica nearly destroyed their home a year later that her nanny decided to inform her parents. Facility officers showed up 3 days later, dressed in nice black suits and reassured her parents that Mica would be well cared for and her condition would be treated and cured.

Those were, of course, lies. As soon as Mica was brought to the Facility, she was put into their system and locked in a cage. They did not begin feeding her drugs until a few weeks later. They made her lethargic and wreaked havoc on her mental stability. But most of all, they dampened her abilities to tiny flares. Their experiments amounted to torture. This was Mica's life for the rest of her teenage years.

When she was 19, she had convinced her captors of her complacency and they had stopped giving her injections, in favor of pills. She had not taken any of the Facility's meds in over a year. By then, she had regained her powers, though the damage done to her mental health was permanent. At midnight, on her 20th birthday, Mica planted one of her volatile bombs in her cell. It triggered an explosion that killed a number of people, misfit and Facility workers alike. Mica escaped in the ensuing chaos.

The first place she went, was home. It was the first time she had seen her parents since they sent her away nearly 7 years prior. She watched the house for 3 days, apprehensive about seeing them and asking them for help. In that time, they had had another child, another girl, whom they showered with the attention they had never given her. She finally confronted them on the third day and demanded to know why they had never come to get her. Her mother and father had no explanation, other than they had tried once to visit her and were turned away.

Mica was furious. Called them liars and demanded to know why they had never wanted her. They had no answer and Mica left, frustrated and angry. To avoid detection by the Facility, Mica went into the Belowground under the city. The news had reached the misfits living there; someone had blown up the Facility and escaped. Mica didn't step forward at first, because not every misfit was grateful for the indiscriminate way the explosion was handled. But that did plant the idea in her head to carry on her work of freeing the misfits still in the Facility's clutches.

So that's what she did. Soon, Facilities across the nation were plagued with carefully timed explosions that allowed the Misfits to escape in the chaos.

When she was 21 years old, Mica found herself in New York to plant a bomb and it was there she met a man named Evan Ward. Their first meeting wasn't exactly on the friendliest terms. He had caught wind of her plans to blow up the Facility and that ruffled his feathers. He had her caught before she could act and brought to him. They were formally introduced and by the end of the meeting, Evan found himself treating her to dinner and a place to sleep, in exchange she would not blow up the Facility and disrupt his business.

This started a rather unorthodox relationship between Mica and Evan. Every couple of months, she would show up on his doorstep and would stay with him for a week at the most before moving on. They weren't friends or exclusive lovers, but it was the closest thing Mica had ever really had. Which was why she kept going back. In fact, she was staying with Evan when she is swept off to the Keep.

4. Personality:

Mica is a wild child. Her stint in the Facility did a fairly thorough job of rooting out the demure young woman her parents had carefully cultivated. She's brash and subscribes to the idea that she needs to eat, drink, and be merry today because she's going to die tomorrow. She likes to have fun, even at the expense of everything else. She has no real sense of self preservation so she's not afraid to be reckless or make decisions she knows are really stupid. She's hunted by the Facility and she knows it is only a matter of time before they catch and kill her. That's why she wants to live in the moment.

Her social skills aren't the best. She's blunt to the point of callousness and can be openly mocking if necessary. Mica is a 'calls 'em like she sees 'em' kind of girl and won't hesitate to tell you what she thinks of you, especially if you annoy her or make her angry. Thankfully, Mica also freely forgives, so she can hate your guts one day and ready to be best friends the next. The only way to make it onto her permanent shit list is to try and cage her or tie her down. That's why she has a hard time with intimate relationships. She doesn't like feeling boxed in.

She resents the Facility with all of her being and will do anything to bring them down, including blowing them up. She feels no remorse for her actions and if given the opportunity, she would blow them up again. She wants to free the misfits, but more than that, Mica wants to make the Facility hurt. Her only regret was the haphazard way she handled the first Facility she ever destroyed. She didn't mean to kill so many of her own kind and she feels a lot of guilt for it. She has very little love for her parents and nearly equates them with the Facility.

In fact, the only people in Mica's life she gives more than a cursory consideration are Evan and her sister, Ashley. She never contacts Ashley directly because Mica is very well aware that she's not a healthy person and she doesn't want to interfere with Ashley's life. Still, every year Mica sends Ashley a birthday card filled with money and a gift. As for Evan, Mica loves him in her own unique way. They're not going to get married or anything like that. But he's one of the only people in her life that makes her feel like she does more than exist.

5. Previous Game Developments: N/A

6. Appearance:

Here she is. PB is Demari Vi Syth. She's got various scars along her body from her time in the Facility.

7. Abilities:

Mica is capable of creating explosive balls of energy. They vary in size, but the largest they get fit in the palm in her hand. These little balls of energy explode on contact with a surface other than Mica herself. So they don't blow up in her hands, but if she were to toss one at a wall, it would explode. They do not harm her but they are created with energy from her own body, which means she tends to eat and sleep a little more than a normal human, depending on how many blasts she makes. The larger the blasts are, the bigger the boom they cause. Though this consumes more energy and it means she'll have to eat or sleep more afterwards.

While in the Keep, Mica's blasts are at half power. Meaning they do not bring down entire buildings like they do at home. They could probably knock a hole in a wall. But it would take more than one or two blasts to actually bring down a building. Her blasts will also consume twice as much energy, so that's a deterrent.

8. Languages: Mica speaks and writes new American, which is a mix of English, Indian, Spanish, German, and French. She can also read and write in English/Common. Her English/Common is awkward, however.

9. Items: She'll be showing up in one of Evan's business shirts. So that's it.

10. Weapons: N/A

11. Writing sample - Third Person:

The clock struck 3.

It was medicine time.

Mica could hear the orderlies making their rounds in her wing. Some of the others still screamed when they showed up. Still fought with what strength the drugs left them. They were strapped down then, tied to their beds with leather restraints and were often left that way until their wrists and ankles were rubbed raw.

But Mica had learned how to play their game. She had learned to play the part of the willing victim, the complacent patient. She was quiet as a mouse and did what she was told and accepted their drugs like a child accepted candy on Halloween night. They liked that about her, that she had stopped fighting and had started playing along. That meant they could save their needles for the scrappers.

Mica was lucky. Mica got the pills.

She never swallowed the pills.

Even though they stood there and watched her take them. Even though they checked her mouth and under her tongue and her palms. She was skilled at hiding them at this point. Or they had stopped caring.

"How do you feel?" He clicked a pen and looked at Mica expectantly.

Her eyes appeared vacant, looked everywhere but at the orderly. She was so good at pretending. "Sleepy." A canned reply. Mica didn't sleep much, but she was alert. Had to be. So she didn't make mistakes. She couldn't afford mistakes. They would give her the needle again.

The orderly smiled and scribbled something on his clipboard. Then he was gone and Mica spit the pill out and buried it in the niche behind her bed with the others. That spot was getting full. She was going to need a new place to hide them.

That's if she didn't escape.

Tomorrow was her birthday. What a present her freedom would be.

The clock struck midnight.

Then, the Facility exploded.

12. Character sample - Q&A:

What is your biggest fear?

...Going back to the Facility. I will die before I ever go back there.

A very good friend of yours lies to you about something important, but for a decent reason. What do you do?

I do not like lies. Or liars.

You wake to find that you have turned into a pony. How do you react and what is the first thing that you do?

That is...odd, yes? But I would probably kick the, ah, shit out of some Facility people.

You are asked to deliver an important item to your neighbour and are told that it is a surprise gift and you shouldn't tell them who it's from. You’ve wanted something like this for a long time, but by chance, you misplace it. By the time you find it, two weeks later, nobody seems to have missed it. What do you do?

That would depend entirely on what it is, non?

You find a door with 'Do Not Enter' printed on it's front. It doesn't appear to be locked in any way. Do you obey the sign and leave it alone, or take a look inside?

Look inside, naturally. I do not like secrets.

For 24 hours, you have a super power of your choice. What power do you have, and what do you do with the time you've got it for?

I already have powers, yes? I do not need more.

13. Tattoo: Looped around her left thigh.

14. Room Preference: Anywhere is fine.
